Athletes invest a lot in order to be the best that they can be at their chosen sport. Whether it is physical or mental preparation, the athlete is continually working and growing. Dayton McCall says that he has put in a lot to get where he is today.
“As an athlete, I have had to do a lot in order to be the athlete I am.,” he said. “There is a lot of hard work and dedication that goes into it. I also have great camaraderie with my teammates and that plays a huge role in our team’s success.”
Dayton is a junior at Bartlesville high school, where he is a multi-sport athlete. He plays guard and forward as a member of the Bruins basketball team, while he plays defender on the soccer team. He first began playing sports when he was in the first grade and McCall says that he still loves competing and playing.
Throughout his life, there have been numerous people that have had an impact on Dayton’s life. But he says that there are a few that have had a much bigger influence on who he has become.
“My parents are the biggest role models for my life,” he said. “I value their dedication and support in all my endeavors, and look up to them. I am so thankful to have them as part of my life. Another person who has played a part in my life is my favorite teacher, Mr. Harper. He has taught me new ways to think about the world and helped prepare me for the future.”
Bartlesville boys basketball coach Clent Stewart says that McCall is a hard worker and a key member of his squad.
“Dayton is a glue guy, he helps hold the team together, no matter what is going on,” he said. “He does all the hustle and effort things that no one else will do. He is active on the board and can make plays when the ball is in his hands.”
Along with sports, Dayton is also a member of the National Honor Society, student council, chess club, and the interact club.
