Reese Savage – Bartlesville Soccer

There are many reasons students at Bartlesville High School love being part of the Bruin family. For varsity soccer player Reese Savage, it comes down to the support and understanding of the faculty that student-athletes have a tough schedule to maintain.

“As a student-athlete BHS is a great place to be because the teachers are always lenient with work if you were gone for a game and everyone is always so supportive,” Savage said. “The support from my parents, coaches, and fans means everything to me and encourages me.”

 Now a junior, Savage started playing the game of soccer at age six. A left wing and defender, Savage said she loves playing with this team and her teammates.

“What I love most about my teammates is that they’re always so encouraging and make me laugh even when I mess up,” said Savage.
 

Like many of her peers on the pitch, Savage continues to work on her game to help her team win.

“My strength of my skill set is teamwork. I enjoy working with them. I’ve improved on communicating on the field,” Savage said. “My biggest challenge as a high school athlete is motivation but my coaches and teammates always help with that.”

To mentally prepare herself for competition, Savage said she does what any athlete should do, eat right and sleep.

“I mentally prepare myself by getting enough sleep and eating good food the night before a game,” said Savage.

The goal for life after high school is college. Savage said she’s inspired by someone very close to home.

“My goal for life after high school is to go to college and get a degree in nursing,” Savage said. “My dad inspires me on and off the field he’s someone I’ve always looked up to.”

When asked about she is proud of in her soccer career, Savage had a quick answer. “I’m most proud of my team this year we’ve improved a lot.”
