Bartlesville’s Ava Carter – Soccer Spotlight – Presented by Conoco Phillips

Bartlesville’s Ava Carter

Athletes find inspiration in many things. From music to quotes or a Bible verse to a great pre-game speech, inspiration comes in many forms. Bartlesville High School’s Ava Carter finds inspiration in a member of her family.

“My dad is my biggest inspiration. He always gives 100 percent in everything he does and is always there for everyone,” said Carter.

Carter started playing the game of soccer at a young age. Now a senior, Carter said it’s her teammates that make all of the practices and games worth the sacrifice.

“I play center midfield and forward. I started playing soccer when I was four years old,” Carter said. “What I’ve enjoyed most about soccer is the friendships and connections I’ve made through the sport.”

This season Carter has continued to work on her game and enters her final season of prep soccer ready to compete and represent the Lady Bruins on the pitch. “My strength is being able to read the game, find key passes, and stay patient while being vocal in a positive way. This season, I’ve focused on mentally preparing myself to take on a leadership role as a senior and to make a positive impact on the underclassmen,” said Carter.

Several players have left an impression on Carter including the ones who keep everyone loose and ready to play.

“I’ve been really impressed with Brooke Baker this season. She’s stepped up as a senior and has been an outstanding leader, teammate, and friend,” Carter said. “Leighton Sigler is the teammate who keeps everyone laughing, and Sophia Roman is the most serious. What I love most about my teammates is how everyone shows up to practice and does their best with positive attitudes.”

Carter said she plans to attend college and pursue a degree in education. As for playing soccer, this season may be her last. “After high school, my goal is to hang up my cleats and attend OSU to pursue a degree in elementary education,” said Carter.
