Bartlesville head coach Kyle Minton has high expectations going into the 2023 season with all but two players returning from last season. The Bruins finished 17-18 in 2022 under Minton. “With returning the majority of our roster from last year we will have players at every position that have seen meaningful varsity time in the field and at the plate,” Minton said. “It is an extremely athletic group that is able to take a lot of extra bases and play great defense. With returning our starting pitchers and most of our offense we are looking forward to a good year.” Bartlesville will be led by VYPE Top 100 nominee Emerson Casey, a junior outfielder and second baseman. Casey hit .447 with 11 doubles, a pair of triples, and drove in 26 runs as a sophomore. She had 27 runs scored and stole 16 bases. “Emerson had a great sophomore year. She can hit for power, run well, and plays great defense,” Minton said. “She has a great attitude and work ethic. After hitting .447 as a sophomore we are looking for her to build off of that and have another great year for us.” Senior Allie Scullawl returns at shortstop. A four-year starter, Scullawl hit .267 with four doubles, and had 13 runs scored. She was the District Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. “Allie will be a four-year starter at shortstop for us and is one of the instinctive players on the field,” Minton said. “She does some amazing things at shortstop that go unnoticed because she makes them look so easy. She has put in a lot of time and effort into the weight room and hitting, which has produced great gains in both areas heading into her senior year.” Sophomore Kelsie Yales will be one of Bartlesville’s primary pitchers and will also see time at first base. As a freshman, Yales posted a 9-10 won-loss record with a 2.63 ERA and had 67 strikeouts. “Kelsie is going into her sophomore year and was an all-district pitcher her freshman year,” Minton said. “She has continued to work offensively and can be one of our strongest hitters. She is a hard worker, great competitor, and we are looking forward to seeing how she grows the next three seasons.” Savannah Alden will be just a freshman, but Minton expects contributions as a power threat in the lineup. Senior Chelsea Goddard will be a key piece in the outfield. Goddard hit .372, drove in 26 runs, scored 28 runs, stole 13 bases and had nine extra-base hits last year. “Chelsea has been one of our hardest workers for the last couple years and puts in a lot of time into getting better,” Minton said. She showed a ton of range to track down fly balls in the outfield as a junior. Her range helps out all the players around her defensively, and the work she has put in has made her a big part of our lineup heading into her senior season.” Junior outfielder Chloe Robbins hit .446 in 2022 with 31 runs scored and 32 stolen bases. “Chloe is a tremendous player on the field, but she also does everything needed off the field and in the classroom,” Minto said. “She is a great role model for other students, is involved in several activities, and always a good teammate towards others.” Others expected to contribute for the Bruins are seniors Saleena Catlin, Demri Clabaugh and Aubrey Miller; juniors Kylee Berry, Isabell Daniels, Lexi Durao, Parker Fielder, Autumn Gawhega and Gentry Marshall; sophomores Layla Bloom, Maddie Czaja and Kenzie Denny; and freshman Alison Rosson.
