Bartlesville’s Abbagail Mason – Coach Spotlight – Presented by Army National Guard

By Ember McElrath

Bartlesville Coach of the Month, Abbagail Mason, was caught off guard when she first received the news of her recent award.

“It caught me off guard, but I am humbly honored,” said Abby.

Abby is in her second year as the assistant soccer coach for the Lady Bruins. Before helping coach the Bruins Abby coached her son’s soccer team for several years. But when she heard that coach Kuntz was looking for an assistant, she knew she had to reach out to him.

Loving all aspects of soccer, there is one thing she can’t get enough of.

“Watching these kids love the sport they play,” said Abby. “It’s been an awesome experience getting to grow with and know the girls.”

After dealing with COVID-19 last season and now this year, Abby is most looking forward to just getting a season this year.

“COVID-19 dealt a hard blow to the high school soccer community last year, so I am looking forward to a full season,” said Abby. “I try to find a small amount of joy in every day, some days I don’t succeed but I always try again.”

Abby started her soccer career when she was at the young age of four and didn’t stop there. She not only coaches for Bartlesville High School, she also played under coach Kuntz while she attended the school. From there she went on to play at Northern Oklahoma College and Oklahoma Wesleyan University.

She keeps herself plenty busy when she isn’t coaching, her and her husband Josh have three wonderful kids, Grayson, Jetson, and Braven. Her husband is a coach and trainer on his weekends when he isn’t busy working for DHS. Abby just recently graduated with her Nursing degree from Roger State University and is looking at starting her Practitioner courses this spring. When she isn’t continuing her education or coaching she and her family enjoy traveling and just spending time together.
