As the proud parent of athletes, Shelia Wood knows that it takes more than just getting her kids
to school, practices, and games in order to have a successful athletic program and school.
Wood says that is why she helps in any way that she can.
“I have always been an active volunteer at my kid’s schools and a member of the booster clubs
for each sport which keeps me very busy,” she said. “I stay involved in their sports career by
attending meetings, ordering and delivering game day meals, cooking for the players,
organizing fundraisers, and I have served on many planning committees. This all helps me get
to know the coaches and my kid’s teammates. I am also the president of the Bartlesville High
School Parent Support Group and spend a lot of time at the high school. Bartlesville has such a
wonderful group of administrators, coaches, and teachers with so many academic opportunities
and some of the nicest athletic facilities.”
Shelia’s daughter, Alli, is a sophomore at Harding University. When she was a student at
Bartlesville, she played volleyball, basketball, and golf. Woods’ son Cooper is a junior and plays
football and basketball for the Bruins.
While she enjoys helping out the school and athletic program however she can, Shelia has a
more important reason for being so involved.
“I want my kids to know that the things they do are important to me,” she said. “I think sports are
a huge benefit to kids. They learn about time management, dealing with adversity, and making
friends. Sports also help athletes learn so many life lessons and teach things that can be used
in their future workplace and dealing with coworkers.”
When she is not volunteering with the athletic program, Wood is a substitue teacher throughout
the Bartlesville school district. She also enjoys spending time with quality time with her family.
“My favorite thing to do is watch my kid’s sporting events and also enjoy traveling when I can
work it in between their activities.”
