Bartlesville’s Michael Kent – Football Spotlight – Presented by Career Employment Service Inc

Michael Kent is an up-and-coming player looking to make an impact on the Bartlesville Bruins football team. He is a sophomore with a strong passion for competition and football. Being a competitive person drives him to keep improving his game.

Making plays on the field is Michael’s favorite part of the game. As a quarterback, he is at the center of the action, making quick, strategic decisions. The best memory he has of football is still the first time he started as a quarterback.

Football has taught him to be levelheaded under pressure. He can think clearly and make decisions with calm intent. “To be calm in certain situations, this has helped me be a better person,” he says. With the help of football, he has learned a skill that is useful in all aspects of life.

Another valuable aspect of football is the team spirit of brotherhood. “The bonds you make with your teammates,” he says, are why being on a team is special. He looks up to fellow teammate John Torres for his energy and how he shows up every day.

As a Bruin, Michael knows that the area youth look up to him. He enjoys representing his school and sees it as an opportunity “to show little kids how to respect people and show them how to be a Bruin,” says Michael.

It is easy to let the stress of performing on the field get to your head but Michael remembers some good advice he tries to follow. “Just be myself and have fun,” he says.

Michael thanks his mom, dad and Coach Wright for helping him navigate his football journey. He is particularly inspired by his mom. “She shows me not to worry about things too much and how to be a good person,” he said.

Coach Steffson is his favorite teacher. The subject he likes the most is math. “It is my favorite because it challenges me and makes me think,” he says.

A fun fact about Michael is that he is a “big family guy.” He loves including his friends with his family to create one big, fun, tight-knit group. The most memorable vacation for Michael was a family trip to Orange Beach last year that included his best friend.
