BARTLESVILLE BRUINS
GIRLS
Coach: Justyn Shaw
22-23 Record: 7-16
Head coach Justyn Shaw returns three starters, including VYPE Top 100 candidate Mikka Chambers, from a team that went 7-16 last season. “Looking to play fast and free, and hard on defense. We have three starters returning from last year,” Shaw said. Chambers, who will be in her third year as a starter, averaged 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds last season. Chambers offers Bartlesville a lot of versatility and can play any position on the floor.
“[Mikka] is a prolific scorer when she’s in the zone,” Shaw said. “Can stretch the floor at the 4 and 5 spot with her ball-handling ability, and punish smaller guards with her size and strength, and finish at the rim and shoot the 3 and midrange.” Sophomore Emma Zimmeran gives the Bruins an advantage on the defensive end of the floor. Zimmerman started 10-plus games as a freshman. “An elite defender. Emma has great instincts on the defensive end. Knows angles and how to keep the ball in front of her, as well as playing in space off the ball,” Shaw said. “Great court awareness in transition on the offensive end and is a capable ball-handler, shooter and passer. “Coachable, teachable and has a great work ethic. I am looking forward to a breakout sophomore season for Emma.” Cassie Snead is another sophomore who saw action as a freshman and who Shaw is high on. “Cassie is an extremely hard-working individual. A good passer, ball-handler and excellent defender,” he said. She is our loudest communicator in practice each day. I’m looking forward to Cassie having a ‘much-sung’ sophomore year.” Junior Alayah Lunn will be in her second year as a starter and is a scoring threat from the perimeter. Lunn also has the ability to get to the rim.
“Arguably our best perimeter threat, Alayah is a dazzling ball-handler and good finisher at the rim,” Shaw said. “Alayah had to grow up fast in her freshman season. She started in the second half of our round one playoff game when our starting senior point guard went down with an injury. She didn’t flinch when she stepped on the floor, hitting a big 3-point shot minutes after her first official start.”
