Bartlesville tennis head coach Bryan Reese has a lot of praise for Cade Winter’s knowledge.
“Cade is maybe the smartest player I have ever coached,” Reese said. “He is a straight A student taking all AP classes. He can name every single capital city and nearly every flag from every country in the world. He knows history and geography better than most anyone I have ever talked to. He is a great student athlete.”
Aside from his work in the classroom, Winter is a competitor on the tennis court and also runs cross country for the Bruins. He has been involved in sports nearly his entire life.
“For balancing, I find time to study and do homework. Typically, I study or do homework at night,” Winter said. “I enjoy being a student-athlete for the opportunities and lessons it provides. Balancing the school work load and strain of the sports season help better my mental and physical health.”
His top priorities are to make it to the state tournament in tennis and finish the school year with a bang.
“This year for tennis, I’d like to make it to the state tournament. Academically, I’d like to finish the school year with all A’s,” he said.
Winter has steadily improved from year to year in tennis and enjoys playing points as a drill.
“Overall, I have been able to improve all parts of my game, either slightly or significantly since beginning high school,” he said. “I believe one of my biggest strengths is my ability to volley and play at the net.
“My favorite training drill is probably just playing points. I enjoy the match atmosphere and it helps work on my overall game.”
His progress has been significant since his sophomore year.
“Individually, this season has been much better than last year due to the improvement in record and overall play,” said Winter, who recalls a win over Edmond North this year and a win against Moore as a sophomore as cherished memories.
“Furthermore, the team has also done much better than last. I really have to give credit to everyone else on the team for their hard work ethic and constant desire to get better.”
Winter, who is undecided on what college he will attend after his high school days are over, enjoys relaxing and hanging out with friends and family during his free time.
