Considered to be the motivational and vocal leader of the swim team, Amanda LaFrancois is also known as a strong long-distance swimmer. VYPE Magazine caught up with LaFrancois before she jumped in the pool for another meet to learn more about her and what it’s like to swim for the Bruins.
VYPE: Amanda, what is it about Bruin swimming? What do you love most?
LaFrancois: Their passion and love of the sport. All of us are there to get better and be the best that we can be.
VYPE: Do you have a favorite subject in the classroom or a favorite teacher?
LaFrancois: I’d have to say physics. I love its mix of math and logic. My freshman and sophomore year French teacher Madame Suzanne Villines.
VYPE: Who has influenced you as a swimmer?
LaFrancois: Two of my team captains, Sydney Perry, and Erin Downey. They worked hard and strived for greatness. They always seemed to bring out the best in people and it’s something I have tried to take with me.
VYPE: What does it mean to you when you’re called the unsung hero of this team?LaFrancois: It means a lot; I swim because I love competing and seeing what I can do. I try to bring that out in my teammates and encourage them. Hearing that what I’m doing is being noticed just encourages me to keep at it.
