VYPE: What goals do you have for this year?
Marielle: My goals include to become a more vocal leader.
VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?
Marielle: Volleyball has taught me to learn from my mistakes and make improvements on how to overcome them.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
Marielle: Mrs. Cone. Sophomore English. I absolutely love Mrs. Cone! She is so positive every day and genuinely cares about her students. Every day, she would greet you with a smile and made sure when you left, she always said goodbye.
VYPE: Who inspires you and why?
Marielle: My Coach, Coach Ward. She has been coaching me since I was eight years old. First in basketball, then into volleyball. She has always been my biggest supporter when it comes to playing sports and being comfortable in my own skin. Being “bigger” than all of the other girls playing sports always impacted me. Coach Ward made sure that I knew size doesn’t determine worth. This has always stuck with me. I will always admire Coach Ward’s ferocity when it comes to fighting for us and the volleyball program. We are able to have the much-needed items to help us succeed because of her and the other coaches.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Marielle: Marissa Demuth. She has this energy that is super contagious. She is so kind and so caring. Although she is a year younger than me, she has always seemed so mature. She is the best hype man. She has taught me that no matter where you are in life, you can always smile and laugh about it.
VYPE: What is your favorite part about being on a team?
Marielle: My favorite part about being on a team is the support that comes with it. All of us are close and always talk about everything.
VYPE: Who in your family is the best athlete? Explain.
Marielle: So, my whole family are all athletes. I have three younger sisters, who all play volleyball. My dad played baseball until his heart disease no longer allowed him to. And my mom played basketball, volleyball, and Pom. So, there is no best athlete. We all have unique skills to help us be the best.
VYPE: What’s one sport you wish you could play that you don’t already play?
Marielle: I wish I could do swimming. When I was a kid, I really wanted to be a swimmer. Then I found out they have to go to practice at 5 a.m. or something crazy like that. I really like my sleep.
VYPE: What’s your go-to pregame song?
Marielle: Any Eminem song.
