Bartlesville High School senior AJ Jones brings versatility, preparation and a strong sense of connection to the Bruins football program as he takes the field at outside linebacker and wide receiver.

Jones embraces the demands of playing on both sides of the ball. His role requires him to understand opposing offenses defensively while also contributing as a target in the passing game. He identifies his football awareness as one of the qualities that helps him handle those responsibilities.

“My strength is knowing what to do and when to do it, and I’m working on getting stronger and more physical,” Jones said.

For Jones, football is more than a position or a Friday night competition. It is an opportunity to be part of a group built on trust. The relationships inside the Bartlesville locker room give him confidence that teammates will support one another when challenges arise.

“I love that I can call anyone on the team and ask for something and they will have my back,” Jones said.

That team-first mindset is a major reason Jones enjoys representing Bartlesville. Whether he is lining up at linebacker or moving out wide at receiver, he values the chance to play a sport he has loved for years alongside teammates who have become close friends.

“I play outside linebacker and wide receiver, and I like being on the team because I love football,” Jones said.

Jones also draws inspiration from one of Oklahoma football’s most recognizable former players. Watching CeeDee Lamb while growing up gave Jones an example of a player whose journey from the University of Oklahoma to the NFL showed what is possible through dedication and development.

“I am inspired by CeeDee Lamb because I’ve watched him since I was little, and he played at the University of Oklahoma,” Jones said.

As his senior season unfolds, Jones is eager to make the most of the remaining time he has with the people who have shared his high school football experience. He also credits Landen Shaw for leaving a meaningful impression through toughness and fearlessness.

“Someone who left an impression on me is Landen Shaw because he’s not the biggest or fastest, but he isn’t scared of anything,” Jones said.

Jones hopes the next step in his football journey comes at the college level, but his immediate focus remains on enjoying his final season as a Bruin.

“I’m excited to go have fun with my lifelong friends,” Jones said. “I want to play college football after high school.”
