Bartlesville High School softball player Josie Childers is making the most of her summer as she prepares for another season with the Lady Bruins. A versatile contributor on the diamond, Childers said, “I play 3rd and in the outfield.” Her willingness to move around the field reflects the team-first mindset she brings to Bartlesville’s varsity program.
Even with a busy offseason schedule, Childers carves out time for both softball and fun. “We have workouts and summer league games in June, and we are about to start our July practices. On weekends I try to go out and at least do my tee routine,” she said, describing a routine that keeps her swing sharp heading into fall. Away from the field, she has found a favorite way to stay active and connect with friends. “A must do summer activity is pickleball. I absolutely love playing pickleball with my friends.”
Childers is focused on building strong chemistry with her teammates as they gear up for the season. “I just want everyone to try their hardest and trust each other. Trust the girl beside you, stay positive, and control what you can control. I’m really excited for this season, and I think everyone will be great,” she said. That trust extends to teammates who keep practices light and competitive. “Funniest teammate has to be Lydia Daniels. Even if she’s not trying to be funny, she always has us laughing. I’d say Erin Bridendolph always has the dirtiest uniform from her always laying out and diving. She’s also our fastest base runner.”
Balancing academics and athletics is another priority. “I’ll be a sophomore this year and I hope to maintain good grades throughout both semesters,” Childers said. When she is not in the classroom or on the field, she often can be found driving with a friend and listening to her favorite artists. “I’m always in the car with Lydia Daniels and we love listening to Sabrina Carpenter and Audrey Hobert.” For Childers, the slower pace of summer is part of what makes this time special. “The best part of summer is getting to spend time with my friends and not having to wake up to an alarm.”
